Dream Cast Thursday! High Society

Today is the first official Dream Cast Thursday Blog Post. This week I am recasting High Society. It originally came out in 1956. It was a musical remake of the Philadelphia Story (which originally came out in 1940 and was an adaptation of the play of the same name).
High Society starred Grace Kelly as Tracy Samantha Lord, Bing Crosby as C.K. Dexter-Haven, Frank Sinatra as Mike Connor, and Celeste Holm as Liz Imbrie. This is one of my favorite films, and I have often thought about how I would re-cast it were I to make a remake.
I would cast Claire Forlani as Tracy Samantha Lord (in the past I haven't really liked her that much, but hey, if Dougray Scott Likes her, she must be okay). I would cast Patrick Wilson as C.K. Dexter-Haven. I would cast James Franco as Mike Connor and Cate Blanchett as Liz Imbrie.

If any of you have any opinions of the cast or ideas for future "Dream Cast Thursdays" please leave your ideas in the comments.

Smell Saturday?...WTF???

Okay...So I am going to start out by warning you all that this is going to sound a little weird. Starting Saturday, I am going to have a weekly post called "Smell Saturday." I got the inspiration after playing a game with my sister, my cousin, and my cousin's boyfriend in a bar. One of us would name a random celebrity. Every one else had to describe what that celebrity smelled like in as much detail as possible. You will probably get a better feel for what I am talking about after I do one. So check back this Saturday, at which point I will be describing how Gerard Butler smells.

As always, post any comments or ideas in the comments section.

Ruth and Jamie's Visit!

Ruth and Jamie came to stay for a few days. It was really fun. This first picture is of us waiting for a train (right after I had been groped by a crazy woman...long story).

The second picture is of Ruth thoroughly enjoying her first ever Chicago-style hot dog.

The third picture was taken right before it started raining. It was ridiculous. It was really nice outside. Suddenly a big gust of wind came up. It was FREEZING cold. I think that I actually screamed, because I was so startled. Then Ruth had to walk all down Sheridan (pretty busy) in the rain, in her bathing suit.

The fourth picture was earlier in the day. It was pretty gloomy outside, but actually felt pretty nice.

Food Friday! pt. 5 Vegetable Soup

Sorry, this recipe is kind of random. I made the soup randomly, so I am not sure of the exact measurements.
Ingredients
1 bag of frozen corn
1 bag of frozen peas
1 bag of baby carrots (chopped)
6 large yellow potatoes (peeled and cubed)
vegetable stock
16 oz bag of egg noodles
dash of salt
dash of pepper
1 can of tomatoes

I use Better than Bullion to make vegetable stock. So, first I boiled water, then Better than Bullion and a dash of salt and pepper to the water. Next I added the potatoes to the stock. I allowed the potatoes to cook in the stock on Medium-High for about ten minutes.

Next, add the noodles and carrots. Allow to cook for another ten minutes. Test the potatoes and noodles. Once they are about done, add the peas and corn.

Cover and simmer for about twenty minutes. I hope that you enjoy.

Planet of the Dead Review

Maybe it was just me, but I was really disappointed by the Doctor Who Easter Special, Planet of the Dead. Maybe my expectations were just too high. See, I am used to buying a Doctor Who Season and watching it all at once. I have never had to wait for episodes before.

I think that I expected way more than a single (less than an hour) special could provide. Also, I think that the writing could have been a little better. Overall, I do not feel like much happened in way of the storyline.

The previews for the next episode looked good, though. I have no idea when it will air, but it should come out before 2010 (whenever than means). Did anyone else see it? Does anyone else have any thoughts?

The Best Weekend Ever!

I started out feeling really stressed this weekend. I had two really important papers to do and not very much time to do them. Now I am sitting down on Sunday night, eating shells and cheese, watching the new Doctor Who special, having seen a wonderful new episode of Dollhouse, and having seen RENT the way that it is truly meant to be seen. Life is pretty great right now.
See, a few months ago, my mom found out that RENT was coming to Chicago....not just that, but RENT starring Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp was coming to Chicago. She bought us tickets as a pre-birthday gift, but technically post birthday gift (since the show date was just yesterday). I have been really excited about it, and was really afraid that when I finally saw it, my expectations would be too high.

Yesterday finally came. I met my mom at Union Station. We went to Borders for a little while, because there was a 40% off day. I bought the Tale of Despereaux (which you should really see if you haven't).

Next was the show. It was really hard sitting in our seats and just waiting for the show to begin. As soon as Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal came on stage, people went into a frenzy. It was crazy. I was enthralled the entire time. I have seen RENT live before and also have seen the film before, but I felt like I was finally seeing it the way that it was meant to be seen. I have never really enjoyed What You Own particularly, but when I saw it performed live by Anthony and Adam, I nearly cried. It was absolutely amazing to see. I also really liked La Vie Boheme, because Adam Pascal got really into it. He was dancing a lot. He had a HUGE grin on his face. I could tell that he was having a lot of fun. The only complaints that I have dealing with the show were the lack of chemistry between Collins and Angel and between Roger and Mimi. Afterwords, they all came out, and Anthony Rapp made a few announcements to the audience.

Oh, and by the way...Adam Pascal has a really cool Celtic tattoo on his arm.

Afterwords, my mom and I went to wait by the stage door. Anthony Rapp came out, but wouldn't let anyone take their picture with him, because there were just so many people. I did manage to get a few pictures, and he did sign an autograph for me on a high heel post-it-note (thank you Mrs. Cunningham).

After the show, my mom and I went out to eat. I had this delicious Ultimate Hawaiian Volcano drink. My mom had a really good Mojito. My mom brought me an adorable Easter Basket. Instead of a basket, it was a vegetable steamer (because she knew that I didn't have one). She also gave me the Fools Rush In dvd, because she knew that I have wanted it for a little while.

Today, I went to the Oriental Theatre again to catch the very last stage door appearance. It was really cool. I feel like I am finally feeling some of the perks that come with living in Chicago.

Now the day is winding down. I am eating shells and cheese (which I haven't had in forever) and watching the much anticipated(by me mostly) new episode of Doctor Who. I am sure that I will write a review as soon as I finish. I hope that you all had a good weekend as well. Come back tomorrow for Music Monday.

Food Friday! pt. 4 Vegetable Lo Mein

Lo Mein is another one of those foods that I really enjoy making, because it is just as easy to make a little as it is to make a lot. I enjoy making a lot so that I have leftovers all through the week. It is a little bit expensive to get some of the things that you need for it, but once you have some of those special ingredients, you can make it over and over again.

Ingredients
8 ounces dried Chinese egg noodles (in a pinch, I've used spaghetti before)
1/2 cup vegetable stock
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons sesame oil
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 teaspoons minced garlic
2 teaspoons minced gigner
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1 chopped yellow onion
1/4 cup sliced rep pepper

*You can add as many other things as you want to this recipe. I have added brocilli, bean sprouts, soy beans, peanuts, etc. before. You can also add meat and substitute the vegetable stock for chicken stock if you wish.

Directions

Drop the noodles into boiling water and cook 3 1/2 to 5 minutes. Drain, rinse with cold water, and set aside.

In a bowl, combine vegetable stock, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Set aside.

Heat wok over high heat. When hot, add vegetable oil, swirling to coat the sides. Ass garlic ginger, green onions, and yellow onions. Cook until fragrant. Add the red pepper (I used preserved red pepper, if you use fresh, you should add it in along with the onions).

Add the sauce and noodles. Gently toss until heated through, and the sauce has thickened. Serve.
