NY-LON

I have recently been getting into watching old shows and movies on Hulu. I recently watched a show called NY-LON. I was really excited when I came across this. I had never heard of it. I originally came out in the UK in 2004.  The concept of the show was really interesting. It follows a couple. The girl lives in New York, and the guy lives in London. The show goes back and forth in time and switches between perspectives.

After watching it, I must confess that I was unimpressed.  The main problems that I had with the show were the characters and the acting. Stephen Moyer was okay as Michael Antonioni, but I was extremely unimpressed with Rashida Jones as Edie Miller. There were a lot of really emotional scenes that I felt Jones really was not up for. It all felt really fake. To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure whether a better actress could have helped much.  I really didn't find anything likable about the character. This made it extremely difficult to care what happened to her. That made it really hard to care about what happened to the couple.

This show is definitely not a must-see! If you want to check it out, you can catch it on Hulu, but I would not recommend it.

Planet of the Dead Review

Maybe it was just me, but I was really disappointed by the Doctor Who Easter Special, Planet of the Dead. Maybe my expectations were just too high. See, I am used to buying a Doctor Who Season and watching it all at once. I have never had to wait for episodes before.

I think that I expected way more than a single (less than an hour) special could provide. Also, I think that the writing could have been a little better. Overall, I do not feel like much happened in way of the storyline.

The previews for the next episode looked good, though. I have no idea when it will air, but it should come out before 2010 (whenever than means). Did anyone else see it? Does anyone else have any thoughts?

Blood Ties

This weekend I became obsessed with this older show called Blood Ties. The premise is of the show is pretty interesting. Vicki Nelson is an ex-cop turned private investigator. She starts investigating a series of strange killings. Over the course of the first episode, she meets Henry Fitzroy (the vampire son of Henry VIII). She begins taking on supernatural cases with the help of Henry, her goth assistant and her ex-partner, Mike Cellucci. The show has everything. There is action, comedy and tons of sexual tension. Best of all, all of the episodes are available online for free at Lifetime.

Dollhouse

Did anyone else watch the series premiere of Dollhouse last night???? I was very surprised by how much I liked it. I had pretty high expectations of the show in general because of Joss Whedon's involvement (writer, director, creator), but pretty low expectations of Eliza Dushku (sorry guys, but I have never really liked her that much). That said, I must say that she pleasantly surprised me. I didn't think that she would do a very good job when it came to completely changing character, but she did really well. I was also really happy to see Buffy alum, Amy Acker. I would definitely recommend this show to anyone (especially those interested in sci-fi or any past Joss Whedon Projects- Buffy, Angel, Serenity, Dr. Horrible). It is the kind of show that you really need to keep up on. The show airs every Friday at 9:00/8:00 central. I am sure that there will be an encore of the first episode, but if not, the episodes are available online at Fox's Dollhouse website. If anyone else caught it, let me know what you think.
