For this week's Dream Cast Thursday, I will be recasting Charade. The original film came out in 1963. In 2002, a remake called the Truth About Charlie came out.
The original film was written by Peter Stone and directed by Stanley Donen. The two main characters are Peter Joshua and Regina Lampert. They were played by Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn.
The 2002 remake was written and directed by Jonathan Demme. Regina Lambert was played by Thandie Newton, and Joshua Peters was played by Mark Wahlberg.
For my remake, Regina Lampert would be played by Emily Blunt, and Peter Joshua would be played by Eric Bana.

With a film like Charade, or almost any Cary Grant movie, it is hard not to jump to George Clooney for a recast. For Charade, "thinking beyond the Clooney" - I think I'd go with Ewan McGregor -- I definitely think he could pull off the "can we trust him or not" aspect of the character while remaining charming enough to keep Regina connected and somewhat dependent on him. I think that Emily Blunt is a brilliant choice -- but if I can't choose her -- perhaps Natalie Portman (who seems a little young for the part) or Penelope Cruz. What about the trio of bad guys?
I love, love, love emily blunt. She can do no wrong. She would be great in this part
