Russell Pics

Okay, so as most of you know, I have a little thing for Russell Brand...well, I guess it is kind of a big thing actually. Anyway, he used to have weekly radio podcasts. They were hilarious to listen to, and ever since he has stopped doing them, there has been a small void in my soul (just kidding...but seriously). Anyway, I am very happy to report that Russell has started regularly updating a blog and twitter account. These are of course not exactly the same, but really are quite hilarious. Here are some photos that he has recently posted from his trip to Malaysia.

Love with the Proper Stranger

I am very sad to add Love with the Proper Stranger to my list of films that I desperately want to own, but is sadly no longer available anywhere on dvd. I know that it was at one point available on dvd, because I rented it and watched it years ago. I did manage to find it here on youtube, but it just is not the same. The film does not get nearly enough credit. It is a cute little movie, but also tackles issues way before its time. Natalie Wood and Steve McQueen work really well together. As always, if anyone knows of a decently priced copy that I can get anywhere, please let me know.

Food Friday! pt. 2 SANGRIA

This technically is not a "food," but it is a drink. I recently turned 21, and my parents gave me this gorgeous pitcher and glasses along with a recipe for sangria. This is a variation of that recipe.

Sangria

One bottle of wine (spanish is good, perhaps a merlot...I used Yellow Tail)

One b
ottle of sparkling cider (club soda or even sprite or ginger ale is also good)

2 cups ju
ice (any juice is fine, but i used a raspberry acai berry juice)

3 shots of triple sec (most recipes only call for one)

2 tablespoons sugar (you don't need this if you use sprite)

sliced
fruit (i used a red and a green apple, two oranges, a lemon and a lime) I also like to make sure that i cut them in different ways (thick orange slices, thin lime slices, different size apple and lemon wedges).

Mix all ingredients together. Add ice. I hope that you enjoy it.

Two Doors Down

In the past couple of weeks, I have become obsessed with Two Doors Down by the Mystery Jets. I have listened to is over and over (mostly while walking to class and attempting not to break into dance). I hope that you enjoy.

The Tempest

These are the first set photos from the upcoming film, the Tempest. It is directed by Julie Taymor (Across the Universe).

Blood Ties

This weekend I became obsessed with this older show called Blood Ties. The premise is of the show is pretty interesting. Vicki Nelson is an ex-cop turned private investigator. She starts investigating a series of strange killings. Over the course of the first episode, she meets Henry Fitzroy (the vampire son of Henry VIII). She begins taking on supernatural cases with the help of Henry, her goth assistant and her ex-partner, Mike Cellucci. The show has everything. There is action, comedy and tons of sexual tension. Best of all, all of the episodes are available online for free at Lifetime.

Food Friday! (technically saturday) CHEDDAR BISCUITS

I was really excited for this recipe. They did not taste exactly like the biscuits from the restaurant, but my roommates and I all agreed that they turned out pretty well.

Red Lobster Cheddar Biscuits

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups Bisquick baking mix
3/4 cup cold whole milk
4 tablespoons cold butter (1/2 stick)
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 heaping cup grated cheddar cheese

Brush on Top

2 tablespoons butter, melted
1/4 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 pinch of salt

Directions

1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees

2. Combine Bisquick with cold butter in a medium bowl using a pastry cutter or a large fork. You don't want to mix too thoroughly. There should be small chunks of butter in there that are about the size of peas. Add cheddar cheese, milk, and 1/4 teaspoon garlic. Mix by hand until combines, but don't over m
ix.

3. Drop approximately 1/4 cup portions of the dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet with an ice cream scoop.

4. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes or until the tops of the biscuits begin to turn light brown.

5. When you take the biscuits out of the oven, melt 2 tablespoons butter in a small bown in your microwave. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder and the dried parsley flakes. Use a brush to spread this garlic butter over the tops of all the biscuits. Use up all of the butter. Make one dozen biscuits.

I hope that you enjoy this recipe. If you try it, let me know how it goes.

The Cotton Club

I watched The Cotton Club this weekend for the first time in years. I really enjoyed the music. I had a total Francis Ford Coppola weekend (with Rumble Fish, the Outsiders and the Cotton Club). It was a lot of fun, because I haven't seen any of these movies in so long. I had never seen Rumble Fish at all. It was really adorable to see Richard Gere and Diane Lane together. I was really depressed to find out that it is nearly impossible to find a reasonable priced, region one dvd of it though. If anyone knows where I can get one, let me know. I will probably just end up buying a region two version at some point. I hate that a lot of older dvds are starting to not be available on dvd.
